THINGS TO DO ON DUGI OTOK
SALT LAKE «MIR»
This natural beauty is located in the Natural Park Telašćica. It was created after the last Ice Age when the sea level rose. The lake is very salty because the underground channels are connected to the sea. The lake is about 900m long and 300m wide. The greatest depth is 6m. In addition to the plankton, there are only a few species of marine organisms in the lake. These are: algae, goby, mullet, sea bass, shellfish, sea snails, crabs and eels that grow up to 3kg.
SCUBA DIVING
If you want to get more familiar with the underwater world of Dugi Otok, you can contact one of five diving schools on the island and go on an adventure!
SECLUDED BAYS AND SANDY BEACHES
One of the most beautiful things to see on Dugi Otok is its secluded bays and white sandy beaches. Most famous one being Saharun (Sakarun) and Veli Žal.
SAKARUN
Sakarun is a breathtaking beach in Croatia. The water is so clean and clear, with white sand and shallow for many kilometers.
VELI ŽAL
Veli Žal is another beach close to Sakarun. The beach itself is pebble but its waters offers smooth white sand.
STRAŠNA PEĆ CAVE
Another interesting trip on the island is a visit to the cave. There are many bats living inside, in fact, it is the largest bat colony in this part of Europe! Its fascinated beauty even interested Hungarian Emperor Franz Joseph I, who visited it in 1904.
LIGHTHOUSE
The lighthouse is located on the northwestern tip of Dugi Otok, near Veli Rat. It was built in 1849, and it’s 42m high (the highest one in Croatia). The lighthouse also offers accommodation!
